Vetomed PGA is braided synthetic absorbable multifilament made of polyglycolic acid and is coated to allow for easier passage through tissues with a minimal drag. Coated PGA suture thread facilitates precise knot placement, smooth, soft  and easy tie down, greater tensile strength and longer absorption period.  After three weeks post implantation, clinical trials showed that PGA sutures maintained around 50% or more of their original tensile strength. Absorption by hydrolysis is complete between 60 and 90 days.

PGA suture should not be used where extended approximation of tissue is required.
